Production Process technology developed

Production technologies developed and recommended for farmers (2004-2005 to 2008-2009)

Sugarcane growers of South Gujarat heavy rainfall zone, agro ecological situation-III are advised to plant sugarcane crop with 60-120-60 cm paired row planting and pre-emergence application of Pendimethalin 1.0 kg ha-1 +gram smoother cropping for getting highest sugarcane yield and net return. Alternatively they may also plant the crop at 90 cm (normal planting) or 120 cm (twin row planting), coupled with pre-emergence application of Pendimethalin 1.0 kg ha-1 + gram smoother cropping or three hands weeding at 30 + 60 + 90 DAP + two interculturing at 45 + 90 DAP.

The farmer of South Gujarat heavy rainfall zone AES-III growing sugarcane (Variety CoN 91132) with application of FYM @ 25 t ha-1 alogwith recommended dose (250-125-125 kg ha-1) of NPK.

Sugarcane (CoN 91132) growers of South Gujarat heavy rainfall zone, agro ecological situation-III are advised to take two ratoon crop of sugarcane and it should be fertilized with 100 % recommended dose of NPK (300-62.5-125 kg ha-1) with trash incorporation(10 t ha-1) to get sustainable higher sugarcane yield. The marginal farmers can apply 75 per cent RDF with 10.0 t ha-1 trash incorporation. Under both the treatment rotational Kharif paddy also gave higher yield, without any adverse effect of soil quality.

Note: For each tonne of trash, 10.0 kg single super phosphate + 8.0 kg Urea + 100.0 kg dung + 1.0 kg decomposing culture were taken. The slurry was prepared and poured on trash.

Sugarcane growers of South Gujarat heavy rainfall zone, agro ecological situation-III are advised to apply 100 per cent RDF + 25 per cent N through FYM + bio fertilizer (Azotobactor + PSB each @ 2 kg ha-1) to plant and 100 per cent RDF + trash incorporation @ 10 t ha-1 + bio fertilizers (Azotobactor + PSB each @ 2 kg ha-1) to ratoon crop for higher cane yield and net income and also for sustainable soil health.

The farmer of South Gujarat heavy rainfall zone-1I growing sugarcane are advised to treat sugarcane sets with culture of Acetobactor diazotrophicus at the time of planting or apply Azotobactor culture in the soil at the time of planting and again this culture applied with soil at the time of final earthing up to get more return and saving of 25 % nitrogen fertilizer (2006-07)

Sugarcane Entomology

The conventional chemicals like monocrotophos 36 WSC @ 0.05% and endosulfan 35 EC @ 0.1%. The newer chemicals viz., acephate 75 SP @ 0.1% and carbosulfan 25 SP @ 0.1% were found effective against the sugarcane whitefly Aleurolobus barodensis (Mask).

Sugarcane Pathology

Evaluation of pre-zonal / zonal varieties / genotypes for resistance to red rot.
Sugarcane cultivars viz., Co 87010, Co 86002 and CoLk 8102 and CoN 85134 were moderately resistance, while Co 87025, Co 8209, Co 87023, Co 8014, CoM 88121, CoN 84133, CoN 84138 and CoN 84136 were moderately susceptible to red rot disease by plug method.

Screening of sugarcane varieties for wilt resistance. The sugarcane varieties viz., CoJn 86141 was resistant and Co 91010, Co 91016, Co 91019, Co 92003, Co 92005, Co 92009, Co 92021 and Co 92023 were moderately resistant to wilt diseases.

Recommendation for Sugar factories/Scientific communities

The sugarcane tissue culture project has recommended using transparent plastic sheet dome to harden the plantlets stage-I under green agro shed net to minimize the mortality and to obtain vigorous plant growth.
