Krishi Vigyan Kendra is an institutional project of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) to demonstrate technology generation, technology assessment and refinement and dissemination in the field of agriculture and allied sectors. The KVK has been charged now to take up the responsibilities of technology evaluation and impact assessment, demonstration of technology on the farmer’s field and update of the knowledge and skill for the farmers.
Krishi Vigayn Kendra, Navsari Agricultural University, Surat is established at Athwa Farm, a historic farm established in 1896 and known for release of first successful cotton hybrid (Hybrid 4) for commercial cultivation in the world. The Athwa Farm has two important research stations of the Gujarat state viz., Main Cotton Research Station and Main Sorghum Research Station of Gujarat contributing to lot by the release of varieties/ hybrids and agro-techniques. Recently, Main Cotton Research Station has pride of releasing first Bt hybrids G. Cot. Hy. 6 (BG II) and G. Cot. Hy. 8 (BG II) by public sector institute in the country. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Surat is established in 2012.
